Program
Information
Taekwondo West
offers four different year-round Taekwondo programs, Tai Chi, and two
summer camps:
- The PeeWee
Program for children 4-5 years old. This class meets twice a
week for
thirty five minutes and emphasizes motor learning and self control,
along with the acquisition of basic Taekwondo technique.
- The
children's program for ages 6-12. This program meets up to five
days
per week and comprises a comprehensive Taekwondo education for all
experience levels from beginner through black belt. It includes
traditional Taekwondo, modern sparring technique and competition
preparation, and self defense.
- The adult
program for everyone of teenage years and above meets five days
per
week and includes a heavy emphasis on physical fitness, athletic
development, and all phases of Taekwondo: traditional, Olympic-style
and self defense. This program has
been called one of the best all-around
workouts
in Bozeman.
- The adult
self defense program is open to the general public as well as to
regular students of Taekwondo West, and meets on Thursdays, beginning
on the first Thursday of the month. This
program focuses on practical, powerful self-defense applications that
do not require prior martial arts knowledge or athletic development. It
incorporates elements of Taekwondo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, traditional
jiu-jitsu, hapkido, krav maga, judo and whatever else seems useful,
learnable and effective.
- Tai Chi meets four days a week:
Monday, Wednesday and Friday
evenings and Saturday mornings, and is for adults. For more
information,

- Summer Camps include:
- Teen Camp is for kids of ages 13-17
and meets from 9-3 during the week.
All experience levels are welcome--it doesn't matter whether you're a
black belt or have never done Taekwondo before. We'll train a lot and
have a great time.
- Our Kids' Camp
is for kids of all experience levels, ages 7-13. It runs for two
one-week sessions. Activities
include lots of Taekwondo training,
games, swimming, art work and a final public demonstration each week.
Campers may
attend either or both
weeks and can choose between full days (9 - 3) or half days (9 -12).
Parents and
guests are welcome to watch class from the mezzanine. Note that no
shoes,
except for clean Taekwondo shoes or slippers, are allowed in the dojang.
Timeliness
Please make every effort to be at the dojang early for class and to
take a few minutes to warm up and stretch before class begins. If you
must be late for class, kneel at the side and wait for the instructor
to invite you to join.
Sparring
Sparring classes for all children
are limited to colored belts. Adults of all ranks may attend sparring
class. Sparring class
is recommended for all students of eligible rank. Sparring is the best
way to improve your technique, your understanding of Taekwondo theory,
and to build personal confidence. Sparring gear is mandatory for all
students. Taekwondo West has only a limited supply of equipment to
borrow. Please
purchase your own gear and label it clearly with your name if you plan
to attend sparring classes. Sparring gear can be purchased from the
dojang. Mandatory gear consists of hogu (chest protector), shin and
instep protectors, forearm protectors, groin protector for males,
headgear, and mouthpiece.
